Yesterday started out as a pretty nice day for the Oakville Art in the Park. The sun was shining strong and the winds were low as we set up the tent and got all the displays put out on the tables. I had lots of new rings and pendants on display, and my favorite pair of earrings! Normally my mom comes with me to help out but this year a friend that I met through Instagram came out with me. It was really cool to meet in person and fun to hang out with her all day.
As the day progressed, it got hotter and muggier, but hey! that's how it goes when you do outdoor markets. The heat didn't stop people from coming out to see all the great artists. I met so many wonderful people and despite the heat and humidity, people were in good spirits. I got to meet a few people that follow me on Facebook and Instagram as well!
We were sweating buckets by 11am even though we had the tent and the occasional breeze that blew through. We resorted to wetting paper towels with cold water to cool our faces and that helped a bit but next year I'm finding a battery operated fan! ;)
The temperature reached 31'C around 2pm and the humidity was at 85%, so it was no surprise when we saw the dark clouds start to roll in.
We waited hoping that it would continue to blow over to the lake before it started raining. Mother Nature had other plans for the Art Show that day. It was around 2:30pm when we first heard the thunder. It was a rumble in the distance but it was getting closer. Time to start packing up. It's never safe to be on the field under a metal tent when there is lightening! Before we could get everything packed up, the rain started. By the time we were ready to put it all in the car, it was pouring buckets of rain down on us. To be honest, it felt pretty good after being so hot all morning! A shout out to my friends that stopped by the show and helped us pack up the car and got soaked in the process <3
We were all packed up and on the road home by 3:30pm. It was a soggy unpacking when we got home, and fingers crossed for sunny skys in the morning to dry everything out before it gets put away.
It was a wonderful day, despite the weather and I want to thank everyone that came out and to thank the organizers of the show as well.
My next show is September 22 & 23 Arts on the Credit Tour! Hopefully if you missed the Oakville show, you can make it out to Port Credit! I look forward to seeing everyone there!
